Advancing Climate Resilience with the Tribal Adaptation Menu
Date
Janna Black, North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center Tribal Liaison, attended the Tribal Adaptation Menu (TAM) Train-the-Trainer Workshop in Minneapolis, MN, on July 22–24. Co-sponsored by the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals, this immersive training brought together Tribal Climate Resilience Liaisons from across the Bureau of Indian Affairs network, as well as partners from multiple Climate Adaptation Science Centers.
The TAM is a framework developed by tribal, intertribal, academic, and federal collaborators in the Great Lakes region to integrate Indigenous knowledge, language, and values into climate adaptation planning. The workshop prepared participants to facilitate TAM-based trainings in their own regions, helping to ensure that adaptation strategies are culturally relevant, Indigenous-led, and rooted in community priorities.
By completing this training, Janna is better equipped to incorporate the TAM into future climate resilience workshops and to support tribal partners in developing adaptation strategies that honor traditional lifeways while addressing the impacts of a changing climate.
