On July 15, James Rattling Leaf, Sr. gave the Keynote Address at the 49th Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop by the Natural Hazards Center and University of Colorado Boulder. This year, the workshop theme was “The Stories We Tell: Creative Strategies for Understanding and Communicating Disaster Risk.” 

Rattling Leaf’s presentation, titled “Using Indigenous Storytelling to Advance Resilience,” discussed strategies for combining Indigenous storytelling with modern scientific knowledge; he also “highlight[s] the relevance of Indigenous knowledge systems in contemporary resilience discourse and advocate[s] for their inclusion in policy and practice” (Natural Hazards Center).
