Climate Change Concepts & Applications - 101

This workshop-style session will facilitate a discussion of “very basic” concepts and practices to apply climate science and data to impact assessments and resource management. In that sense, this session is geared towards addressing some common FAQs that practitioners have about working with climate projection information. The discussion will be specifically oriented to answer the questions described below. This session will also provide an introduction to Climate Toolbox and demonstrate the use of select tools online on Climate Toolbox tp explore some of these questions.

  • Where is the uncertainty coming from in climate projections?
  • How to visualize this uncertainty?
  • How to work with different emission scenarios?
  • How to select a future time period for climate impacts assessments?
  • What are different climate projections data available to select from?
  • What is downscaled climate data and what are their strengths and limitations?
