Balancing Management Objectives in a Time of Climate Change

Balancing Management Objectives in a Time of Climate Change

Date

New NC CASC-funded research is now out, in a paper discussing the challenges of ecosystem management in the face of climate change. It suggests that traditional methods based on historical conditions may be inadequate due to ongoing ecological transformations. The Resist-Accept-Direct (RAD) framework is proposed for climate-informed management, but it needs to better address trade-offs between diverse ecological and societal goals. Key scientific tasks include improving predictions of socioecological impacts under new climate conditions and factoring in uncertainties in ecological changes and RAD interventions. The paper emphasizes the importance of incorporating diverse objectives and just, equitable decision-making processes in RAD implementation.
