Dr. Imtiaz Rangwala attended a climate adaptation workshop in mid-October to participate in a one-and-half day discussion on pinyon and juniper ecosystem management. Participants were primarily managers for pinyon and juniper ecosystems on the Colorado Plateau, and the group worked to identify management opportunities for adapting to change. Specifically, the group worked through a Adaptation Workbook exercise to assess regional and local effects of climate change on pinyon-juniper ecosystems; explored resources and tools that can be used to understand climate change in pinyon-juniper ecosystems; identified challenges and opportunities for land managers; and discussed actionable steps to adapt pinyon and juniper ecosystems to a changing climate.

This project is funded by the NC CASC, and the workshop provided a great opportunity to connect with several participants from the Bureau of Land Management as well as partners from US Fish and Wildlife and the National Park Service and scientists from various institutes.
