Indigenous Knowledge in Tribal wildlife management

Indigenous Knowledge in Tribal wildlife management

Date

NC CASC/USGS climate adaptation scientist, Anthony Ciocco, and NC CASC Tribal resilience liaison, Stefan Tangen, are co-authors on a new publication in the Wildlife Society Bulletin that explores the basic preconditions for actualizing Indigenous Knowledge (IK) in Tribal wildlife management. They propose a holistic conceptual framework which includes sovereignty, the North American model of management, funding, cultural resources, stakeholder support and programmatic leadership. Each precondition has a role in supporting the application of IK in Tribal wildlife management programs.
