NC CASC/USGS Research Ecologist Brian Miller is the primary author of a new publication, "Conservation under uncertainty: Innovations in participatory climate change scenario planning from U.S. national parks". By reflecting on a decade of scenario planning engagements with four National Park Service units, this paper provides a generalized approach for conducting climate change scenario planning that is grounded in natural and cultural resource management priorities. It describes key management outcomes and broader lessons, including insights for fostering participant engagement, considering non-climate stressors, incorporating quantitative approaches, and translating scenarios into strategic action.
