USGS scientist Gabriel Senay and others have published a paper on the operational global actual evapotranspiration (ET) product that has been used by the Famine Early Warning Systems Network for use in drought monitoring and early warning applications since 2014. The publication includes the methodology, evaluation, and dissemination of the product. The paper highlights the reliability of the operational ET for drought monitoring without any modifications, but users are advised to conduct a one-time localized bias correction using observed data for water budget studies.
