NC CASC PI James Rattling Leaf will present "Developing Tribal Strategies to Deal with a Changing Climate" at the Second Lakota Food Summit on February 17th. The event is sponsored by the Lakota Food Sovereignty Coalition,  a reservation-wide collaboration between food producers, processors, transporters, financial supporters, sellers, and consumers on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. We collaborate with local, state and federal programs to create a sustainable food system on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The Coalition works to create a more sustainable, prosperous and sovereign localized food system. The goal of the Coalition is to sustainably produce and provide access to delicious, nutritious, local foods that increase and improve the quality of our lives, economy, communities and the environment through education, culture, mindfulness and balance. The mission of the Lakota Food Sovereignty Coalition is creating a local food system by providing inspiration, educating consumers, connecting stakeholders, and encouraging the production, distribution and marketing of healthy local foods. The vision of the Lakota Food Sovereignty is to establish a strong, sovereign food system on the Pine Ridge Reservation that improves the health of the people, regenerates the ecosystem, and revitalize the economy.
