The 2025 CIRES Science Summit
Date
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) hosted its inaugural Science Summit on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Community (SEEC) auditorium at the University of Colorado Boulder. The event commenced with welcoming remarks from CIRES Director Waleed Abdalati, followed by "Science Shuffle" discussions, allowing participants to engage in topic-specific conversations with colleagues sharing similar interests. After a provided lunch, the afternoon transitioned into a World-Café style meeting, facilitating interdisciplinary interactions across multiple topic areas. The goal of the meeting was to strengthen internal networks at the University of Colorado Boulder, foster collaborations, encourage innovative thinking, amplify existing research, outreach and engagement efforts, as well as support the CIRES community during a challenging time.
In attendance from the North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center (NC CASC) were Imtiaz Rangwala, Climate Lead; Heather Yocum, Social Science Lead; and Ulyana Peña, Communications Lead. Each contributed their expertise to conversations around climate adaptation, stakeholder engagement, and the importance of co-produced science. The summit provided a valuable platform for the NC CASC team to connect with other groups at CU Boulder and explore collaborative opportunities.
