Ulyana Horodyskyj Peña

Ulyana Horodyskyj Peña is a glaciologist with extensive experience in science communication. She received her Masters from Brown University, PhD from CU Boulder, and completed a post-doc with the National Snow and Ice Data Center, which included National Geographic sponsored fieldwork on Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic. In 2013/14, Ulyana was the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship and lived abroad in Nepal for 10 months, finishing her PhD and launching a participatory science program called The Sherpa-Scientist Initiative. While abroad, she wrote an 8-part blog series for Scientific American. In 2022, Ulyana was chosen as a "Voices for Science" ambassador with the American Geophysical Union. When not at work, you can find her either on a ship in the Arctic/Antarctic, or out in the mountains of Colorado with her husband, Ricardo, climbing the state's highest peaks.
