Dr. Laura Dee is an ecologist and sustainability scientist whose research focuses on understanding how ecosystems respond to environmental change and how to improve decision-making for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem management. She has established a diverse, solutions-oriented research group focused on (1) understanding how climate change will impact ecosystems and their contributions to human well-being (ecosystem services) and (2) working with partners to co-design and evaluate strategies for conserving biodiversity and ecosystem services under global change. Dee leads and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams of ecologists, economists, computer scientists, climate scientists, and decision makers to bridge the gap between scientific research and real-world applications. Her research has been not only published in leading scientific journals but also has influenced conservation planning efforts at local, regional, and global scales. Ultimately, her research aims to generate knowledge that is both scientifically rigorous and practically useful—especially for underserved communities that are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss. Dr. Dee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. She received her PhD in Ecology and Environmental Management 2015 at UC Santa Barbara, along with a concurrent MA in Economics. She received her BS in Marine Biology at Brown University. She is a NSF CAREER awardee, the recipient of CU Boulder’s Outstanding Postdoc Mentor award, and a fellow of the Ecological Society of America, among other recognitions.
